This isn’t a rant, yet. It is an idea. I find that I have spent a lot of time on the phone talking with people whose job it is to help me use their company’s services and what I have learned is that, quite often, those people need new jobs. Now, I know it is a thankless task to be a customer support. Users expect the world and your bosses see you as replaceable machines. You’re underpaid and under-appreciated, there is no doubt of that. That doesn’t excuse poor service. It never has. I have worked with some fantastic support people in my time. These people worked in the same crappy conditions for the same crappy companies. The only difference: they did it well.

These little sagas are my catalog of customer support incidents that I deal with. Hopefully, some will actually be positive.

This is not a new endeavor. In fact, I’ve been writing a blog for close to six years now. Most of that work was of a personal nature, though. The site chronicled my transition from one chapter of my life to another. It was a form of communication that was aimed at a very specific audience. Beyond that, it was my personal history of what happened in those very tumultuous years. I will treasure every post I made there no matter how silly or inane it was. As a personal site, it suited me, and I was happy to have it.

Things change. I changed. I dropped the pseudonym and I quickly found that, like many things, the concept of the personal blog no longer fits with what I am doing. In fact, it is high past time that I stand up and do something more than simply type away chronicling a personal history that is, at times, wholly meaningless to everyone else. If I actually spend time working on something, I should want an audience. I should work toward that goal. It is no longer enough to type just so that I can preach to my small circle.

It is time to aim for more!
