You might have noticed that I don’t have comments here. Part of that is just a practicality of the site. I like having a static site—generated without a database or dynamic updates that most comment platforms require. A long time ago, I did include comments through a secondary platform (Disqus). Most were helpful and constructive, but the truth is that the effort it took to manage comments far outweighed their value on the site. Most of the time, it was a chore that distracted from the work I wanted to showcase or discuss. That’s the problem with a comment system. It encourages low-effort interactions that don’t tend to create any lasting connection. I don’t really have time for that.
That said, I am always open to hear from you. You can reach me via the social media links on the side, and if you have have a question, suggestion, or a comment, feel free to email me. I like email. I have a high level of control, and email is deliberately, obviously, asynchronous. I am allowed to read, process and respond without fear of additional comments that might derail an entire conversation. In short, we can actually communicate. In the same way, that control means I don’t need to respond to trolls in my email. At worst, I click block and delete, and no one who reads this site needs to see any of that. The troll loses its public opportunity via my platform.
If you ask me, that’s a win-win!
